URBAN Fresh Burgers & Fries, South Yorkshire’s favourite fresh burger restaurant, has donated £1,024 to FareShare Yorkshire to mark the fifth anniversary of its Rotherham restaurant’s opening.
Between 27th May – 2nd June, £1 from every in-store sale was donated to FareShare Yorkshire, the county’s leading food redistribution charity.
“At URBAN, we cook fresh to order so there’s little to no waste. We’re proud to support FareShare Yorkshire, not just because they think the same way we do about food waste and food poverty, but because they’re a hugely impactful charity that represents the best of the Yorkshire community.” Said Mehmet Kent, Co-Founder of URBAN Fresh Burgers & Fries.
Each year, FareShare Yorkshire processes around 2,000 tonnes of surplus food from over 500 food sites, supporting charities and community groups across the region with enough food for 4.4 million meals.
“FareShare’s Power of a Pound campaign resonated with us as we looked for ways to give back to mark our Rotherham restaurant’s birthday,” Mehmet continued, “It’s astounding how many people in Britain still rely on food banks, so we’re proud to be able to support.”
Jonathan Williams, Head of Development at FareShare Yorkshire said: “We are proud to be partnering with URBAN Fresh Burgers & Fries to help more people facing food insecurity to access the food they need. The generous support of URBAN will help us intercept more surplus food that would otherwise be wasted and redirect it to where it is needed most in local communities. The overwhelming majority of the 400 charities and community groups we serve are under a lot of pressure, so we are grateful to URBAN for backing our mission.”
As URBAN fires up the grill for national expansion, it’s establishing community roots across its four existing locations within South Yorkshire. The FareShare partnership underpins their ethical and sustainable business model and ambitions to support local communities in line with their goals to grow with integrity.
